Drink of the month: Apricot Julep, August 2019


To celebrate our newest addition to the ODK Fruity Mix family, our drink of the month for August is this Apricot Julep.

We are very proud at ODK to have the widest selection of fruit purees available on the market – a selection that is even more varied now with the introduction of ODK Apricot Fruit Puree.

The Julep is a classic cocktail, which in its original form was a Mint Julep – popularised by the famous Kentucky Derby in the United States of America. Filled with crushed ice and served in a metal implement, the original julep became so very popular at the Kentucky Derby, partly because of the hot and humid weather. An ice-cold and refreshing Mint Julep became the perfect remedy.

In the modern-day, the Mint Julep has been adapted to feature all manner of different spirits and flavours. Our Apricot Julep stays as true to the original recipe as we can, featuring fresh mint, bourbon and just a little ODK Apricot Fruit Puree to marry beautifully with the whisky.

Now for the important part. If you want to try it, here is the recipe you will need:


  • 12 fresh mint leaves
  • 75 ml bourbon whisky
  • 15 ml ODK Apricot fruity mix
  • Crushed ice & cubed ice
  • Mint sprig and apricot wedge for garnish



Add your bourbon whisky and ODK Apricot fruity mix into your cocktail shaker. Muddle in 12 mint leaves. Shake with cubed ice. Half fill your julep cup with crushed ice. Now, fine strain the mixture into the julep cup. Stir/muddle with a bar spoon. Top up with crushed ice and stir again. Garnish with a mint sprig and an apricot wedge.
