Bring back the Summer with ODK Banana
Tired of cold-weather ingredients? Banana Cocktails are the answer! Yes, you read that right, banana cocktails. Banana is a very unique flavour and can conjure up thoughts of tropical climates, warmer times and that summer holiday, which now seems so far away.
There is a quite an extensive range of cocktails out there made with banana flavourings, banana syrup or banana cocktail puree. The Tiki Tik and the Banana Colada are two of our favourites.
However, even in the world of Tiki where tropical flavours are a main ingredient, Banana still doesn’t pop up as much as you would expect. We don’t think banana gets its fair say when it comes to cocktails – so call this our ‘Ode to Banana’ perhaps:
45ml white rum
10ml Lemon Juice
100ml Ginger Beer
Build on ice, top with ginger beer. Garnish and serve.
50ml white rum
40ml pineapple juice
Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice, shake hard and strain into a Tiki mug.
Banana Puree vs Fresh Banana
Whereas some bartenders prefer to opt for fresh banana mashed to a pulp, most will opt for a banana cocktail puree. The majority of bartenders will opt for these as they provide high quality, full bodied flavour, and efficiency in serving times – compared to fresh fruit or freshly made fruit purees. In fact the quality of fruit purees is so high today that it is hard to notice the difference.
